Not a technically good image, but definitely a nice moment with a magic moon. I wouldn’t have had time for experiments either. I was just bringing the garbage out, while the taxi was waiting to bring me to the railway station 🙂
I’ve been on vacation and I have used the time to read books. So far this year I’ve read 22 books, thus a total of 30 this year is not unlikely. Wow!
On the other hand, if I keep reading at this speed, I may read another 1000 books in my lifetime. Could be a few more, but the magnitude is correct and that’s a frustratingly small number. I may even have more books already bought than I ever could read 😀
Today we have two images taken more than a week ago. I had just arrived in Vienna, the moon was full (you may remember my inability to take an image of it), and of course, right after leaving the Underground station, I began taking photographs.
I do this all the time and only a small part ever makes it to the blog or to Flickr.
The second image is from the door to my apartment down into the yard of the apartment complex where I live. As apartment complexes go, this is really one of the better. The roofs are interconnected with bridges, and if you take your time, you can spend half an hour making a round-trip.
The last few days we had fog in Villach, but only below around 750 meters. This image was taken from almost 1000 meters above. You’ll see more images from my short after-work trip to Mount Dobratsch in the next few posts 🙂
The Song of the Day is “White Moon” from the 2005 White Stripes album “Get Behind Me Satan”. Hear it on YouTube.
Today’s weather is cloudy with some high fog, it’s cold and does not look promising. Astronomically summer’s gone and it also feels like that.
I’ve decided I won’t take images today, I have work waiting for me anyway. Here’s a Thursday moon for you.
Like in “873 – Reaching For The Moon” and in “1268 – Reaching for the Moon” (the mountain in the latter is also Mangart, as in today’s image) the Song of the Day is “Reaching For The Moon“, but today it is not Holly Cole, today it’s Ella Fitzgerald. Hear it on YouTube.
I was pretty sure I wouldn’t make any images today, but when I went to the car to drive back to Carinthia from Styria, the moon’s lightness in relation to the sky was exactly right. I just couldn’t resist.
For the second time, after a rather awful “351 – The Moon Is Mine“, the Song of the Day is “The Moon Is Mine” from the Fairground Attraction debut album “The First Of A Million Kisses”. Hear it on YouTube.
It was a mostly rainy weekend in Vienna, but on Saturday I could pick out some sunny hours. I did not go swimming like last week, but at least I got some material to feed into Lightroom.
Admittedly the Image of the Day is much more noisy than it should be. In the early evening I looked out of the window and there it was: a wonderful moonrise, a yellow moon in dark blue clouds. The correct action would have been to go for the Sigma 150/2.8, shoot wide open and use base ISO 200. Instead I took the 40-150 (that was nearer) and just took the image, even without looking at the aperture setting. From the sunny afternoon session it was still at f8 and there I had it: ISO 800, deliberately underexposed for the bright moon, most of the picture made up of the inherently more noisy blue channel.
The image is a tiny crop, because I had to get rid of the roof of the next building, but still, I like it and I have it as my current wallpaper. If you like it as well, the image links to the full size and without the white border.
I know, I promised more images from Italy and I’ve already processed and uploaded them. I will post them as soon as I’m in need for an image again, but for yesterday and for today at least I have images that I sufficiently like.
This is the cemetery of Meidling, a district in the south-west of Vienna. I had an appointment in the vicinity, and instead of taking the Underground straight home, I decided to catch some late light on the graves. The moon was definitely a bonus 🙂
The Song of the Day is “White Moon” from the 2005 White Stripes album “Get Behind Me Satan”. A great match if you ask me, but hear for yourself on YouTube.
I’ve been in Carinthia one day earlier today, because I had to bring the car to a car repair shop.
I used ISO 640 and by accident I kept ISO at that for the whole day. That’s the kind of stupidity that you end up with when a camera does not have reasonably intelligent auto ISO 🙂
Oh, by the way, you may remember that I wished Nikon would implement auto ISO in a way that takes focal length into account. Good news: wish granted. Bad news: so far only on the D4 😀
