3741 – I Didn’t Arrange That

A small twig with leaves on a white patch of paint on the street. I didn’t arrange that, I just saw it.

Would I?

Some people do, but even if I don’t, it has nothing to do with purism at all. It’s not my thing. Photography is a meditative act for me, an act of seeing, not an act of arranging.

This is not good or bad. In the end both ways of photography are acts of creating. It’s just that I find one relaxing and the other tedious. Most of the time.

Sometimes I even admire this art of arranging things.

It’s already early Spring around here, but image-wise we are just diving into Winter. Rest assured, it won’t last very long.

Actually I had already wondered whether my lust to take images was gone. Then last Saturday I made 20 images on one short walk through Villach. This is not 20 exposures taken, this is 20 images processed and ready to be used on the blog. Not all of them are first rate, but, well, neither is everything I’ve published so far. In any case, I seemingly need just a lazy hour from time to time 😀

It’s not only Flickr that I spend less time with. I recently found that I run out of excuses. I’ve spent a whole year exploring new programming languages, methods and tools. I’ve bought my new Mac because I found that the old laptop just was not fast enough for programming (although it was perfectly fine for Photoshop and Lightroom). The only thing that I didn’t was sit down and begin.

A few days ago I did 🙂

As a consequence I may spend less time photographing, much less time “socializing” online, and I will try to put at least an hour a day into my private programming project. It’s not the music tracking software that I wrote about on this blog, it’s not a continuation of what I tried on azzyzt.org, it’s more like what I originally envisioned creating when I started my long neglected programming blog. I don’t mean my Java EE tutorial either, I mean the idea to use design patterns and model-based design to raise programming to a new level. Which sounds perfectly like marketing blurb 🙂

Just wait and see. I may get somewhere and then I’ll let you know.

Here’s another post with autumnal impressions collected during the last weeks.

The Image of the Day is interesting, because I’ve come to that tree at exactly the right day. One side, that exposed to the wind, had already been devoid of leaves, the other side was still in full color.

This will hardly have been the first time in my life that I saw such a phenomenon, but at least I can’t remember any other occasion.

Even on the few sunny days there’s not much light in the morning, at least down in the streets, and when I leave work in the evening, the sun is long gone.

Here are a few images that I managed to take anyway. Nothing particularly memorable, so I’ll throw in more than one 😀

I am not satisfied with this image. It is not what I saw in reality and it is not what I set out to make of the image when I saw it in Lightroom for the first time. I don’t consider it a bad image per se, but color troubles me. The green is not what I think it should be, while the red certainly is. It’s not that I haven’t tried different kinds of green, but somehow what I have looks still best to me, regardless of what I do. Go figure 🙂

Yes, that’s the bush from yesterday, the one that lent itself as a hiding place for two lines. Sorry, I just couldn’t resist going nearer and giving these leaves a post of their own.

I believe it’s only the third time that I use this title, and this time the Song of the Day is interpreted by Rickie Lee Jones and David Sanborn. Hear it on YouTube.
