2511 – Bare Bones II

Here is yesterday’s image again. It looks even less like having been shot on a sunny day 🙂

It’s pretty amazing what you can do with Lightroom in its latest versions. There are very few things that I use Photoshop for these days.

The Song of the Day is again “Bare Bones” from Madeleine Peyroux’ 2010 album of the same name. Hear it on YouTube.

2510 – Bare Bones I

These roots at the shore of the lake where I usually swim reminded me of bones, especially with the reflection and its symmetry. It was a sunny day but the roots were in the shade and I decided for a more sinister look.

Now that I think of it, there are probably some more things that can be done and I may try a variant for the next post. Just give me some time 🙂

2165 – Infralove

Between Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 4.1 the guys at Adobe have improved their faux infrared B&W conversion a lot.

Of course this is not only fancy curves applied, this is negative clarity and faux grain as well – and it works.

I wouldn’t go as far as to claim that this looks like the “real” thing, but that isn’t at all important to me either. What is important is, that it pleases my eyes and that it doesn’t look faux at all.

Btw, the toning is not part of the standard effect, that has been added by me.

Why at all? Sorry, I don’t know. I just tried what I never try – and it worked 🙂

2160 – Summer’s Almost Gone VI

It has come so far, even I can’t deny it. As (almost) every year, here’s the “Summer’s Almost Gone” post 😀

It’s already Wednesday night, this is the post for Sunday, most likely not the last day of swimming in the lake this year (I’m stubborn), but most likely the last day that almost felt like summer.

As usual the Song of the Day is “Summer’s Almost Gone” from the 1968 Doors album “Waiting for the Sun”, just like here, here, here, here and here. Hear it on YouTube.

2125 – That Sunday That Summer

A rather stressful weekend, but in the end I managed to get to our place at lake Keutschacher See and swim a round.

Here’s a view back across the meadow towards the entrance of our place. I loved the pattern of the shadows on the grass.

The Song of the Day is “That Sunday That Summer” from Natalie Cole’s tribute album to her father “Unforgettable: With Love”. Hear it on YouTube.

2081 – It’s Magic

Yesterday I was a tad late for swimming, but really, swimming after sundown, almost at night, has its own charms. When I took this image, handheld at 1/4s, I saw tiny flickering lights around me: fireflies! Pretty magic, if you ask me.

It was so dark under the trees, I didn’t even try to take an image. Probably I should have. Probably I’ll try tomorrow. Probably the opportunity is gone. Who knows.

The Song of the Day is “It’s Magic” by Dinah Washington. Like so many of her songs it’s marred by an over-abundance of strings, but then you hear her magic voice and then nothing else matters 🙂

Hear it on YouTube.
