Lisbon is famous for its black and white pavement. What you see here is a pattern of stars on the sidewalk of Rua Alecrim, a street leading from Largo de Camões down to Cais do Sodré, terminal station of linha verde, the green line (underground lines in Lisbon are color coded), and to the shores of river Tejo.

  1. I returned from Lisbon this morning. You have nicely caught a pedestrian sidewalk pattern. I walked along the streets in the west side of the city, and it was remarkable how the buildings were widely different in condition. Some were falling apart, some had been recently renovated.

    • Well, it is most striking in the historical districts around the center. Of course money plays a big role and renovation is sometimes much more expensive than building anew. It’s not everywhere as problematic as in Rome, where you can’t turn a stone without asking an archeologist, but it is pretty expensive in all old cities.
