2075 - Scissor Man

Here’s what I saw this morning in a shop window. Just some scissors used for decoration.

Not that this lens’ bokeh needs it, but if you want to accentuate the effect, there’s always the option in Lightroom to decrease clarity globally and to increase it in the sharp parts.

The Song of the Day is “Scissor Man” from the 2000 XTC album “Drums And Wires”. Hear it on YouTube.

Or perhaps "Edward Scissorhands" - there's two of them, lol. Maybe the store's decorator isn't finished decorating? I've never used Lightroom in any version. So I find your comment about that option very interesting. I haven't run across being able to do such in PS CS5 - but perhaps it's there.

It's directly in Adobe Camera RAW. There you have the "Clarity" slider. In Photoshop I would make two different versions from RAW, one with negative clarity for the blurry background and one with positive clarity for the sharp foreground. But of course there are other possibilities in Photoshop as well, for instance using Topaz Detail for the foreground and a slight Lens blur for the background. Of course you'd want to eliminate the foreground scissors from the layer than you then blur, because otherwise you get the blurred scissors bleeding into the background. But that is another topic. The Lightroom method is quick and seemingly goof enough. That's what I wanted to demonstrate.

A nice 'echoing' of the other pair of scissors, there!
