1513 - The Cool, Cool River II

This is the same river as in yesterday’s image, only this is not HDR, and the place is a few kilometers upstream.

Much less water, huh? Well, the reason is, that part of the river runs through another bed and drives a power station.

Most of the images of today were HDR sequences and you will definitely see some more of them, but for now I have to get ready for the trip back to Vienna.

Just as yesterday, the Song of the Day is “The Cool, Cool River” from Paul Simon’s 1990 album “The Rhythm of the Saints”. You can still hear it on YouTube.

Well, I suppose you'll see one more tomorrow, at least as long as I don't find anything more spectacular in Vienna, which is not very likely 😉

Yeah, I should. As most of the time the problem is, that it is not wide enough for today's screens, and that the composition does not allow for vertical cropping. I'll think about it. Maybe I'll just give up on filling the screen and only size it for the typical vertical resolutions. That would allow me to publish wallpapers much more often.

Hi Andreas, Lovely shot - I'm a sucker for reflections like this. I've been experimenting with Photomatix myself, and overall I'm sorta, kinda satisfied. Lately, I'll do a shot in HDR using Photomatix and, like you, take it into Topaz and fiddle with it a bit more. The trick is to make it look natural (like your previous post). Then there are times when you want more out of the shot and it doesn't look natural, but the final result is appealing nevertheless. It's fun, but it does take time and before you know it you could blow two or three hours on a shot you really had no intention of doing anything with. Thanks for the post, John

Oh yeah, I definitely second that. Take today's "Silence". It took me three revisions to reach the final result. I think it is tonally balanced now, but it was a time-consuming struggle 🙂
