1164 - Simple Joy

21 Images? How on earth do you cope with that? Well, my solution is, to present most of them unedited. Only three have been tinkered with.

The Image of the Day, taken at a bus stop, needed some serious saturation enhancement and minor cropping, the image of the mirror (first of the thumbnails) needed minor cropping from the left, and the image of the flags was cropped and a vignette added. Everything else is, with the exception of automated resizing, presented as straight from the camera.

This was an experience that I had needed. A bright, cold winter day with fresh snow. Now I feel again, why I had enjoyed last winter so much.

I could have taken the car and looked for some untouched nature with virgin snow, but our culture is much too much obsessed with virginity anyway, and I wanted to have the simple joy of the real experience: just taking a walk in the neighborhood, down to the river, about an hour with me, my D300 and the Tamron 17-50/2.8 VR.

And now I shut up and leave you alone with the pictures 😄

The Song of the Day is “Simple” from “k. d. lang’s 2000 album “Invincible Summer”. OK, wrong season, still a nice song. See a live performance on YouTube.

"A bright, cold winter day with fresh snow..." Indeed, "bright" is the key term here. Here in Finland we have cold, we have snow, but no brightness. Yesterday we got well over 20 cm of snow, today perhaps 10 cm more, and it doesn't seem to be stopping there. Snowfall all the time. Lucky you! I liked especially the photographs of snow/ice covered shore. (On the other hand, if we wouldn't have the snow and the cold, it would be ever worse.)

Hmm ... if you can show off, I can as well 😄 No, it was just an incredibly beautiful hour. Sure, I could have chosen one image as usual, but I guess the whole series has its merits. Sometimes I want to tell a story, even if it's not more than the story of a beautiful day.

that's quite a range, andreas. i picked some of them to comment numbering in your of 1-21 ;-) there we go: #4 i love the entangle snow tracks. it's like a puzzle out of my childhood. where did the container with red sticker come from 🙂 #7 water under the bridge. love the light and the view. could standing there for hours 🙂 #11 such a lovely rhythm and contrast. it's like a melody with water and ice streaming together (or something like that ;-)) #12 rhythm thsi time in changing textures. i would call that refined, subtle. and i do love it 🙂 and last but not least #18 it almost instantly reminds me of your image: The Harmony Of Industry And Nature II, that i've placed as my desktop at my workstation. i had to look three times to be sure, but i now know, i'm right 🙂 the same place, from just another angle. i think it's the same quality of light, somehow. 🙂 have a nice day, andreas 🙂

Thanks. Yes, it's the same building, but this time not seen from a hill 🙂

Andreas, thank you very much for this visual treat! A "meal" for the eyes - a banquet, perhaps. How fortunate you are to live so close to such beauty. Where I live, a car is necessary to get away from look-alike houses and shopping malls and warehouses, and interstate highways that are constantly noisy. The sun has turned - Yay! 🙂
