1073 - The Land Of Plenty

I made not a single image today. It does not feel good, believe me, I tell you.

Today, like the last few days, I spent most of my time working on my new web site. The plan is to keep the blog on Blogger (I really can’t complain in the least about them), but to migrate the images from SmugMug to my own site.

Why? Because I have been patient now for more than half a year, have endured the outages, have heard the excuses. I am fed up with them. I have no idea if I can make it better, i.e. create something that at least for me feels better, without making it feel much worse for you, but I have to try. Paul Lester would say “It’s a guy thing” 🙂

This image is from yesterday. Yesterday the weather was much better anyway.

The Song of the Day is “The Land Of Plenty” from Leonard Cohen’s 2001 album “Ten New Songs”, co-written by Sharon Robinson. Hear it on YouTube.

Even though I don't have issues with SmugMug, mostly because I don't use it much, I can certainly understand your frustration. I have been with a couple of different hosting companies over the years and was seriously frustrated with outages, etc. It doesn't take long to get fed up and move!

Yep! It could be just a guy thing. No need to sit around and talk about something endlessly. Fix the problem!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've often thought about building my own website, but.... I don't cut my own hair for a reason.. My time is worth more than the cost of the guy who cuts it really well. I have a guy who does my taxes. Same reason. I want to spend my spare time working on my images and writing, or reading DEEEEEP thoughts 🙂 And yet if I could find a way to combine my images with my words into illios on a sight that allowed easy grouping and spontaneous access from thumbnails.... Ahhhh... yes... I've often thought about my own website.... Hmmmm....

I am really anxious to see what you come up with. Good luck. It's about time that a prolific and talented photographic visual artist designed one the rest of us can appreciate.

@Paul: Yeah, but what I had in mind was more along the lines of revenge 🙂

@Ted: Thanks, you have really a way to encourage a poor guy and hang the grapes high 🙂

Well, actually you won't see much of a web site in the beginning. It's mostly that my images will be hosted under "manessinger.com" (existing but completely devoid of content yet). I still have to find a solution for the big sizes, something like on SmugMug, that displays the biggest size that fits the viewer's screen would be nice, but maybe I go with all static content in the beginning. We'll see.
