276 - Heat Wave

We’re having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave. Our’s does not come from the Isle of Martinique though, but rather from North Africa. At the moment, about 11pm, I sit in my living room, all windows open, not the slightest breeze, it has around 85 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 degrees Celsius, and the forecast has temperatures rising.

I shot this image at about 7:30pm in baking Josefstädter Straße, again with the Sigma 20/1.8, this time at f8. It’s maybe 10 or 15 meters from where I shot “243 - Evening Shadows”.

The Song of the day is Irving Berlin’s “Heat Wave”, and I have it from the usual suspects. Today it is again Holly Cole on her album “Shade”. It is really a shame that Amazon have no sound samples, not even in their Canadian department, but I have found it in the music store of cmt.ca.

Edit: I just checked, they sell WMA (Windows Media Audio) only and the songs you buy there will not play on a Mac. Can any Mac user enlighten me please: do you hear at least the sound samples???

Andreas, I feel for you and that oppressive heat. A fan would help. A few years ago we installed ceiling fans in all our rooms and they're a wonderful help. This allows us to tolerate higher temperatures before turning on an air conditioner.

I love everything about the image - excep the tilt. Perhaps because I expect to see the car and cyclist come sliding "down" to the bright side any minute. Or maybe the tilt is too extreme for my tastes. Sorry. 🙂

Andreas, I'm a Mac user and the samples play fine on my machine.

I like this image for the converging lines and the way the warm light plays on the buildings and the street itself. Love the tilt but those pesky wires bother me. The angle of the sign for 'La Francheria' is a bit of a distraction as it is working against all the other lines but that's really nitpicking.

Thanks for your continued visits to my photoblog- much appreciated

Once, on an early morning after a night before I walked a set like this in New Orleans. There's an exectancy here... it's a place waiting to get filled up with meaning. City early mornings are like that, particularly after a hot night before, eh?
